A little bit of gooeyness added to a warm and delicious apple pie is always welcome. This is about pies that heal, so why wouldn’t you take the comfort level up a notch and top it with some homemade caramel sauce (and not from a jar!)? If you want to turn an apple pie into an even more delicious caramel apple pie, just follow this recipe and drizzle some caramel sauce in between each layer, and don’t forget on the top and the bottom of the pie.
- 1½ cups brown sugar, firmly packed,
- ¹⁄³ cup light corn syrup,
- 6 tbsp (¾ stick) butter,
- ½ tsp salt,
- ½ cup heavy cream.
- Combine the brown sugar, corn syrup, butter, and salt in a saucepan, and cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture is almost boiling.
- Slowly stir in the cream. Cook for about 10 minutes.
